What Is an Apostille?
An apostille is an official certification issued by the Secretary of State that verifies the authenticity of:
Notarized documents
Vital records (birth, marriage, death certificates)
School transcripts or diplomas
Business documents
Powers of attorney and affidavits
When you need to use U.S. documents abroad, simply notarizing them is not enough. Many foreign governments require an apostille (or authentication certificate) to confirm the legitimacy of your documents. This process can feel overwhelming — but I make it simple, reliable, and stress-free.
An apostille ensures that your U.S. document will be recognized as valid in countries that are part of the Hague Apostille Convention. For countries not part of the Hague Convention, documents require a different type of authentication, sometimes involving the U.S. Department of State and/or the embassy or consulate of the destination country.
Common Reasons You May Need an Apostille
Studying or working abroad
International adoptions
Dual citizenship applications
Getting married overseas
Conducting international business
Presenting legal documents in another country
